Transgender 101

The focus on transgender diversity has been increasing dramatically the past few years; in 2014 the Time Magazine cover story was titled, “The Transgender Tipping Point – America’s Next Civil Rights Frontier.” Come hear Elaine Martin explain the details of this most often misunderstood subset of our LGBTA community. In “Transgender 101,” Elaine will explain what transgenderism is, key statistics and challenges of the community, recent trends, and how we can all be good allies to transgender people.

Elaine Martin is a dynamic transgender woman who has been a speaker and leader within the transgender and LGBT communities overall. She was chair of Equality NC board for 2½ years and is a former President of “The Southern Comfort Conference,” the largest conference of transgendered people in the world. Elaine holds a BA in Psychology, an MBA in Finance, is a commercial pilot owning her own aviation business and is married with children.
