Nonprofits are not a minor player in the economy and communities in our state. Learn how nonprofits make a difference every day and how you might become a major player yourself with a favorite cause or organization.

Rob Maddrey is Director for Sustainability for the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits. He is responsible for raising the financial resources which support the work of the Center. Rob brings more than 30 years’ experience in nonprofit leadership.

1st course - Sweet Potato Chicken Tortilla Soup

2nd course - choice of one of the following:

  • Pork Carnitas - Tender yet crispy pork braised in our house-made beer marinade. Served with 3 soft corn tortillas and our signature avocado sauce Rice and beans
  • Mis Chilangas - A Xoco favorite! Three soft, warm plantain sopapillas, topped with refried beans, chorizo, crisp greens, avocado, papaya salsa, queso fresco, and Mexican cream. Served with cheese-chipotle broccoli & cilantro rice
  • Chuyito Burrito - A flour tortilla filled with rice, pinto beans, pico de gallo, melted queso, and grilled chicken.
  • Xoco Relleno - Roasted stuffed Poblano Pepper, filled with a Mexican cream cheese blend and seasoned ground beef topped with pico de gallo, served on a bed of Mexican rice with a side of Sante Fe black beans

3rd course - Carmel Flan with cinnamon, sugar, caramel filled churro.

Village Hearth: Living in Community

Paul J Stinson and Pat McAulay

Durham’s Village Hearth members share their journey in creating the first 55+ cohousing community in the US for LGBTs, friends, and allies.

Paul J. Stinson is a native of the Triangle. He has been a Realtor for over 20 years and has served on multiple professional and municipal boards throughout the area.

Pat McAulay ended her working years with her best job ever as a seventh grade English teacher. She and her wife, Margaret, are among the “burning souls” getting Village Hearth off the ground.


Enjoy our networking cocktail hour. Then, 18 Seaboard will provide a buffet dinner for our group. There will be plenty of food and vegetarian options. CJ Scarlet is CEO of Evidence Vault, Inc. The former roller-skating car hop, U.S. Marine, and forest firefighter is an award-winning writer, motivational speaker, and emerging technology geek.
